Fun, fashionable and full of visual impact, Eyebobs Eyewear is a line of stylish shades and readers now available in Ottawa.
Andrew Hay, who has owned Paper Papier in the ByWard Market for 30 years, first stumbled across the sharp-looking peepers while on a trip to New York two years ago and just had to have them in his store. His shop is the first to carry them in Canada.
“I’m a bit of an eyeglass freak,” Hay says. “I’ve actually got my optometrist to pop out my prescription lenses and put them in the Eyebobs’ frame. It’s a fun alternative.”
Hay offers several different styles to suit your fancy. Prices are $80 for readers and $90 for sunglasses. A recent design collaboration with U.S. fashion icon and interior designer Iris Apfel has given the collection their snappy edge.
Each pair is handmade, using Italian plastics, and is adjustable for personalized fit. All frames are also prescription-lens friendly. “Summer fashion is often about less, but in the words of Iris Apfel, ‘More is more and less is a bore,’” says Hay. –
